Correction on cartridgesJul 18, 2007
By H. Wu The HP1600 ships with starter cartridges. Definitely not a good value.
The 2600 and 2605 models ship with full cartridges. Yes, replacement set of all four is equal to or exceed price of a new printer. Keep an eye out for specials at the big box office stores; Ive seen the 2605dn go for as little as $300.
I have both 2600n and 2605dn. The built-in networking works like a charm, though be sure to get the latest firmware and software updates. For the little bit extra money, the 2605dn is the better way to go. Much faster, built in duplexing, can accept extra printer RAM (which I installed very easily).

Only the bestNov 11, 2008

I had purchased the off-brand replacement cartridges trying to save some money. (They cost about 2/3 as much as the HP ones.) After a little while all of my prints started coming out with streaks. Installing HP cartridges immediately solved the problems. I tried to save a little money and spent a lot more.

yellow toner reviewDec 12, 2007
By S. Holmes
"recovering shopaholic"
The toner worked perfectly, as expected. I am a designer and only use genuine inks and toners. I can't take a chance with the quality of my work. However, it took much longer to receive it than I anticipated. I didn't notice the delayed delivery date until after I paid for it. In hindsight, I would probably spend the few extra bucks and buy it locally.
Cartridge had expiration date of 2007 it is now 2012Jan 12, 2012
By acorstor This cartridge has been sitting on someone's shelf - granted new in box. For 4+ years past the expiration. Why not disclose this up front so at least I had a choice?
Good qualityDec 18, 2011
By Lehman The cartridge arrived promptly and well packaged. It fit into the printer easily and prints very clearly. I waffle between buying brand new (name-brand) and refilled toner cartridges and am still not sure which way is the best. If you're willing to pay the extra price, this offers hassle-free printing.
