This kit contains two separate systems, one for cleaning and another for removing scratches.
The cleaning component consists of a spray (that smells not unlike alcohol) and a plastic spinner that lightly and evenly wipes the spray from the disc. To clean a disc you spray it a couple times, place it in the spinner (label down), close the lid, and turn the crank 20 times. It comes out much cleaner than it went in.
The scratch remover is a bit more "hands on" and prone to errors. It consists of a bottle of "stuff" that's the consistency of toothpaste and some "ultra-soft" round cloths. You put a small amount of the "stuff" on your disc, spread it with the cloth, let it dry to a haze (like old time car wax), and wipe it off (going from the center outwards) with the same cloth. I'm still unsure what constitutes a small amount and why the cloths are round. However, with reasonable care you are able to remove small scratches. (The deal with DVDs is there is a clear plastic coating over the layer that holds the data. If the plastic coating is scratched you can get skips and this kit has a chance of fixing that. If the scratch goes down to the data then it is highly unlikely anything can fix it.
All in all, this thing will pay for itself with the first disc it recovers.

I bought this product to try and save a few CDs that my toddler had scratched up. The product worked well to fix light scratches, but it could not fix the deep ones.
For cleaning discs, you wet the disc and put it in the little plastic unit. Then you manually turn the disc in the unit while the cleaner cloth does its job.
I was disappointed that in order to remove the scratches, you had to apply the product and rub and buff by hand. The plastic unit is only for cleaning discs. Seems pointless to me.
But since it did help me reuse some CDs that were scratched, I have it 3 stars. Not spectacular but not terrible either. For the price range, it's ok.

This kit really does remove all the fingerprints and light scratches. I borrow movies from the library a lot to save money, and, of course, most of them look like they've been played in Hades' DVD player.
Not only do scratched discs cause significant annoyance when it skips while playing, but the constant skipping also negatively affects your DVD player / video game console / CD player.
When I use this to clean up the disc, the skips are no longer there--for the most part. Some scratches are just irreparable.
Now I use it before I put in any sort of previously used disc in any sort of machine.

The principal item in this kit is the disc cleaner gadget. Since I take good care of my discs I have no use for this so cannot comment on it.
I bought the kit to repair 2 light scratches on a DVD+RW disc that had fallen among the connections and wires of my video setup. Before repair the disc would play occasionally (after several reloads) in the DVR but not in my PC (where I was hoping to copy the contents onto a fresh disc.) After the repair it would usually play in the DVR but would sometimes freeze and still would not play at all in the PC. At least I managed to dub it onto a VHS tape and redub onto a fresh disc.
Another drawback to this kit is that, while it comes with a good-sized bottle of the repair cream, it contains only 5 pads for applying the cream and buffing the disc. I emailed 3M's customer service and asked if one could purchase additional pads. No. One could perhaps substitute another form of soft pad or a piece of new chamois, but it seems extremely stingy of 3M to provide only 5 pads.
The bottom line is that you should ask yourself how much are you willing to spend for a tentative repair of a few discs.

Be careful extremely careful and use caution with this product. I tried to clear scratches on 3 DVDs that were experiencing playback problems and managed to clean up just one. The other 2 which I could at least play partially before are now completely unreadable in any DVD player that I use. Both are now out of print and cannot be repurchased as they are over 5 years old.
