A bit too flimsy for what I wanted in a paper cutterJan 15, 2011
By Eric H
I guess I thought from the picture this would have a heavier resin board to it. It's actually pretty thin plastic with criss-crossing reinforcement underneath. I found it unacceptably light (i.e. you need to hold down the board side of it too keep it from tipping when you apply force to the blade).
Wound up returning it and springing for this more heavy duty one: Premier Heavy-Duty Green Board Wood Trimmer, Cut Up to 20 Sheets at One Time, Steel Blades, 12 Inches, Green (PREW12) (Note, despite the product description, this one is actually particle board rather than real wood... but still far better than flimsy plastic). This one also has a nice metal safety latch that engages automatically. The safety latch on this one was just a piece of plastic you have to flip off and on manually.
I could see someone wanting this if they were transporting it often (i.e. you didn't have enough desk space and were carrying from another room when you used it). But for me with it just sitting on my desk, I want something more substantial.

Not Recommended.Feb 09, 2011

As a professional photographer, this paper cutter is not of acceptable quality. The blade swoops inward towards the hinge, rendering the entire top six inches of the 15 inch cutting surface unusable. If you want a straight cut, you have to avoid the top half of the cutting surface and attempt to align your page at a 90 degree angle on the lower half. The color and surface of the blade and blade protector also make it very difficult to see precisely where on the page you are making a cut. This was the only paper cutter that seemed decent in its price range, but I've already packed it back up and affixed a return label. I'm going to an art store to try out cutters before I make my next (higher quality) purchase. If you don't need super perfect cuts and you don't mind the distracting wiggle and swoop of the blade every time you bring it down for a slice, this might be okay for you. It's lightweight and decent for occasional use if you aren't kindof a perfectionist like me. Maybe I just got a particularly lousy specimen, but based on the other reviews I've read I would recommend going for a more expensive model.
The reason I gave it two stars is because it's okay for the value and does cut a small stack of pages pretty straight, as long as you avoid the aforementioned top six inches of the board... although then your 15" paper cutter is only 9".
Oh yeah, and I also got a very painful metal splinter from this cutter! Be careful if you do buy it!

Great Cutter for Medium Work LoadSep 07, 2010
This is a great cutter for small to medium workloads. We use it to cut up to 60lb. paper and it works great.
