Lamination OK, but jams easilyFeb 27, 2009
By M. Mayer We purchased this item for general office use and as a laminator it worked fine. There were some issues with buckling of laminated items and bent corners, but it otherwise was fine for what we needed. Then the laminator jamed and there was no way to remove it. This is a major design flaw of this item. There is a gap between the roller and the exit platform of the laminator, and if the laminated sheet becomes warped during lamination it can get caught in this gap. The problem is there is no release for the cover on the machine to allow you to remove the jam, and the opening is too small to try and pull out the jam with fingers or tweezers or pliers or any other item we could think of. Unfortunately we had to send ours back for this reason.

Perfect for my Application!Mar 02, 2010
By L. Matthews I use the GBC HeatSeal H100 to laminate hang tags for my artist bears. I use business card type stock as the tag and use the biz card size laminating pouches. Works great and does not take up as much room on my desk as the larger Scotch laminator that I previously used.
One note... you do have to use a "carrier" so the adhesive from the pouches does not leak out onto the unit's rollers. I found the cardboard carrier that came with it was too thick... my business cards would not go thru. I use a piece of folded paper (from my printer) cut just a little larger than my cards and it works perfectly!
Don't buy this junk - buy the PL4A from Oregon LaminatorFeb 05, 2012
By Elizabeth Riegel We have had our original PL4A laminator for over a decade. It's in great shape and has tirelessly produced 1000s of luggage tags for us at trade shows. I wonder how they stay in business if they don't build crappy products that break in 6 weeks as almost every appliance/goods we purchase has degraded to. (We actually did have to replace the unit after the very first time we used it when some yahoo stuck his plastic trade show badge in thinking it was a badge scanner and it melted and gummed up the unit. We now have a warning sign on the laminator for the common-sense impaired)
Our business has expanded and we needed to order a second unit, and since we fly with these to trade shows I decided to ignore my better judgment and the reviews already posted here and also try the *lighter weight* GBC Heatseal H110 4.5 inch laminator - along with ordering a new unit from http://www.amazon.com/Office-Supplies-PL4A-HeavyDuty-Laminator/dp/B001CMRUPI/ref=pd_sbs_op_2. We don't get out much, so we were very excited to try them side-by-side to produce a large batch of tags for cases & luggage going on our next tour.
We were happy to find the new PL4A has not diminished in quality since we last purchased over a decade ago. This AMERICAN MADE beauty is as solid as she was 15 years ago when we first bought it. We ordered it from Oregon Laminator and it came very quickly and was packaged properly. Inside was a note from the inspector that it had been tested.
We plugged them both in and started our test with 10 tags in the PL4A - and it zipped right through them as it has since 1995. Not the GBC Heatseal H110! We didn't bother to finish after the 7th tag - they either jammed on exit and curled excessively from the heat, or they bubbled and curved. As they cooled, they did not again go flat.
As many of the other reviewers state: the GBC is only good for making tags for your teenager's gym bag. Not something you want to use to turn a client business card into a luggage tag gift while on site at a show or meeting. Do you want to hand your client a luggage tag with badly curled and crimped edges from consistently getting stuck in the machine? I didn't think so. Buy the unit that may be heavy and ugly on the outside - but is a beautiful product made by Americans that still have jobs.
Works great when not broken...Mar 10, 2011
By Dissatisfied User This laminator works wonderfully when it is not broken. I have used this model for 2 years and it has broken over a dozen times. The lamination cards get stuck inside the machine and there is no way to unstick the cards from the rollers. The company is good about replacing the laminator each time it breaks but still the equipment should be more reliable.
GBCJan 04, 2011
By OTF The GBC Heatseal H110 was bought for my daughter to create name tags and luggage tags. It has been very useful in her hobby and has provided me with oppportunities to use it in my classroom as well.
