Holmes HAP756 ReviewApr 24, 2009
By A. Conway I purchased this product a week ago. I have asthma, allergies, two cats(so cat dander) and I have hard wood floors (so alot of dust all the time) It got so bad I would have coughing fits every day and night. I looked at many air purifiers which had permanant filters, but I would have to clean them every 3 months, I don't know about you, but I have enough to do without worrying if my unit is working because I forgot to clean the filters. Also I like that the true HEPA filters work more effectively and had better review overall on the internet reviews. I don't find it hard to invest 60 dollars a year on the filters, the large unit does almost my whole studio apt, whereas I would have to buy more than one of the other units. I think that this is a great value for price, and in one hour I could feel the difference, infact yesterday I thought the windows were open but they were not, the air purifier worked that well to clean the air. So far my coughing has all but gone away. This is a great product. Try it out.

Remarkable the amount this unit trapsJul 14, 2009
By Martin We've had this unit for 5 months now and it is remarkable how much debris is captured in the carbon pre-filters. They are supposed to be replaced approximately every 6 months and I plan on that. However, I am vacuuming them every 2 months or so due to the amount trapped. Since we bought it we are experiencing very little dust on the surfaces in the bedroom where our unit is used.
Someone complained about the cost of the filters as the HEPA filters should be replaced every 12 months at $20 per filter (price at Target--2 for $39.99), but if this unit continues to clean the way it has so far, I don't mind paying the approximately $75 for filters per year. That's not much considering what we do not have to breathe in and the significantly reduced cleaning of the window blinds. The Holmes HAP756-U significantly outperforms units we have elsewhere in our condominium.

Above average unit for lessFeb 22, 2011

I have Holmes units from this series throughout my home for about 10 years. If you buy a unit from this series that uses this standard Hepa filter it facilitates filter replacement. As these units employ a modular approach to filter implementation. That is, the smaller units use 2 filters as the larger units use 3 filters. The filters have a nice rubberized gasket that presumably minimizes air leakage around filters. The carbon prefilters withstand vacuuming saving hepa filter life and increasing performance. I am fortunate enough to get mailers from Holmes for sales on filters every year, greatly reducing my filter expenses. I have these units throughout my 4000 sq. foot home. (6 in all) I have never had any of them fail, and I run them all constantly. I do not use the higher fan settings however as they can be loud. They can be placed in several orientations based on your location. I have 5 pets and allergies and can "peacefully" coexist with them in my house. I would give them a "4" based on performance, but will rate a "5" bases on unusual reliability and my ability to get filters inexpensively. I use the triple filter units in the very large areas, and the double filter units in the smaller areas. If I have to pay full price for the filters at some point then I would entertain switching brands based on filter price and performance. (pay attention to your cadr ratings for example) Spend a good deal of time researching all brands before you buy, as there are many types of air cleaners out there and they are somewhat different in their applications. Typically the products in "infomercials" are very poorly rated for example. These Holmes units have been solid performers for me, recommended.

Quiet apparently effective but 3 hepa filters at $24 eachDec 11, 2007

Seems like a very good unit.. quiet air flow quite good but the only drawback that I can measure is the cost of the three ( 3 ) hepa filters at $24.95 each.. Maybe the filters are less somewhere other than Holmes.. can't seem to locate part no. HAPF600CS..
Would not take long to exceed the cost of a more expensive /presumably better unit that had longer life or self cleaning filters. Razor and Blade scenerio seems to be the typical marketing strategy for most of these types of units.

SMOKE DESTROYER!! And, Pros and ConsMar 07, 2011

Being used in a 20'X30' room. I am a fairly heavy smoker with kids in the house. I also like to smoke cigars. So, needless to say I spent a lot of time outside until I purchased this. With it set on the lowest setting, on a table next to my chair about 3' from my head, I can still here the TV fine and people sitting right next to me can't smell the smoke if the filters are in good shape. I am so amazed at it's ability to pull smoke out of the air.
PROS: - Easy to operate and change filters. - Filters are readily available (for now) - Quiet on the lowest setting, yet still effective. - Durable. Motor is still working fine after 3 years of almost constant running.
CONS: - Initial price and filter replacement costs are relatively high. Ask yourself why you are buying this. If it is for a specific, noticable reason like ridding your house of smoke or dust...it will be worth it because you will see the difference. If you are buying it to get rid of things like allergens or other things you can not SEE, you might find yourself regretting getting it and being caught in the non-ending filter replacement cycle. - The higher settings are too loud for everyday use, but effective if wanting to quickly rid the room of smoke, etc. - The filter change lights were "glitchy", coming on and off at almost daily intervals until they stopped working all-together. I suspect the recessed buttons for resetting are too flimsy and the first time we pushed them it caused something to come loose or break. They must be pushed with a pen.
