Great Replacement FilterFeb 07, 2010
By TAN This filter is just as good as the original. I have been using one of these filters for over 4 months now and there is no evidence of deterioration or mold whatsoever. I will offer two helpful hints to potential consumers: (1) Make sure you use an antibacterial additive in your humidifier every time you refill your reservoirs and (2) Always rotate your filter upside down each time you add water. This will GREATLY increase the lifetime of your filter. Also, the twin pack is a great buy!

Extend their lifeFeb 12, 2011
By aslann For those of you getting only a week or two of usefulness from these filters, on a whim I ran one through my dishwasher using regular detergent and a few dishes. I let it go through the hot dry cycle, but think it might be better to pull it out before that. Some of the plastic screen was distorted, but not badly. The webbing was disturbed a bit but not badly. I put it back in the machine on the next filter change and it has been acting like a brand new one. I have the little humidistat gauge on my unit, so as the filter goes bad it shows up on the gauge. My next test is to see how many times it can survive the DW. Will shorter cycles work? For those with high amounts of calcium in their water vs the manganese I have, maybe some vinegar instead of detergent. And maybe save up 2-3 filters and run a dedicated cycle. Those with aluminum cages on the filters might not like the DW detergents. Try it and add an opinion about it. I do think the engineering of these units where they rely on capillary action to pull water up into the filter is ridiculous. My water doesn't have mold or mineral deposits aside from the orange maganese, it just gets dirty with dust kicked up by our traffic and the dog. The filters do get a brown tinge on the top as they stop working. I'll also get a colorless, odorless bioslime in the reservoir and presumably in the filter. This may be what is being washed out as much as anything. But I'm going with the DW for now, otherwise I would go through 12-15 filters a season. I tried the silver nitrate balls in the reservoir, but they didn't help.

Serves its functionDec 14, 2010
By inetcruise It served its function. Actually, have reordered it and on our 2nd set of these. Last winter of 2009, we had used a a set of w as well from December to about April. Only advice for others who like to buy one, don't forget to get those bacteriostatic water additive and/or humidifier container cleaning solutions to prolong the life of these filters and to minimize mold and/or algae in the water -therefore, cleaner and moistened/humidified cool blowing in to the room.

I received one of these a few months ago and it works just fine. Then I got a second one without requesting it and my account was charged. I have contact the seller and am awaiting a reply.

Bye Bye Nose BleedsJan 04, 2010
By Bingo Fuel After 3 weeks of running the woodstove, I had it with nosebleeds from the dry air. I ran into the basement and dug out the Holmes unit. Sadly, I didn't try it completely before I put it away last season. When I opened the box, the filter was moldy and nasty. It went into the trash and it took me an hour to clean up the unit. I jumped online to find the manual and hit amazon and saw the filter for like $12. Well $12 + Free Shipping (thanks to Prime Membership) saved me several trips to try and find this likely rare item. Two days later, it came in and I was off to the races. The unit has been putting about 2 tanks full a day. So far no more nose bleeds. A+++++
