If my Customer Images are still up, you can see what was shipped was not what was promised. This page (as of this writing) promises an HP brand drum. But I was sent a compatible drum instead.
The sale page displays an image of a genuine HP brand drum. The text talks about "Other products by Hewlett-Packard." The list price given for this drum is commensurate with the list price of a genuine HP brand drum. All this suggests you are buying an HP brand drum. The word "compatible" does not appear on the sale page. I thought I was buying an HP drum. Apparently not.
While the price seemed a little too good to be true, it wasn't "red flag" crazy. For example, Amazon sells a genuine HP brand drum for $85. $HP Drum Kit for Color LaserJet 4500/4550 Series (C4195A) So $65 with shipping didn't make me suspect a switch. (I'll be ordering the drum directly from Amazon shortly.)
It may be that this compatible drum will work properly, although there's some talk on the web about cheap imitations from China. But we're having problems with banding in our printer and have been slowly switching back to HP consumables to ameliorate the problem.
This was not a mistake by Databazaar. In retrospect, their Invoice (NOT the Amazon order confirmation) has the abbreviation "comp" in it. I called them for a return.
On my first call, when I mentioned "Return" I was told their "computer was down for a software upgrade." On the second call, twenty minutes later, I asked if the computer was up. It was and initially, they offered to send a real HP drum. But then, after being put on hold, they reneged. They're saying they will send me an email with a pre-paid shipping label and will credit the charge when they receive it back. We'll see. (I plan to contest the charge with the credit card company, just to be safe.)
Naturally I'm disappointed. Not only at the false advertising by a "trusted" Amazon Merchant but because the whole point of this exercise (buying through Amazon) was to save time and gas. I could have driven to our local supplier to get a compatible for the same price. Databazaar has already wasted my time. I hope I don't have to waste more time and gas, standing in line to return their fake drum.
