Great DealApr 15, 2009

When I was looking for a new MP3 player, I spent several days researching the best products with the best prices. When I came across this little gadget, I was skeptical at first because it had so few positive reviews, but an awesome price. So I took a chance, and I don't regret it at all. This MP3 player is great right out of the box. Granted, I will admit the earbuds are a little lacking in the bass department, and I like a lot of bass in my music. I have bought a different pair of headphones, so hopefully that issue will correct itself. What I like about this player is the compact design, which is definitely pocket friendly. I also like the storage space. Being able to use it not only as an MP3 player, but as a flash drive for documents, etc., is a nice little addition. It does have a built in mic, but I haven't tried that feature yet. My favorite thing about the player is when you turn it on, and then press the volume button, the display flashes all sorts of different colors, and myself, being easily amused, found this to be awesome. Also, the equalizer is pretty inpressive, and with bass turned on, the earbuds sound pretty decent. And a feature which surprised me was the ability to change the language to Japanese, which normall you don't see in electronic gadgets in America. Usually we've got only English, Spanish, French and Portugese, which this player has as well as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. The menus and button aren't indredibly intuitive, and it takes a little bit of fumbling around to figure out which button or menu option does what. On a side note, I initially wanted an MP3 player with this kind of design for cosplay, or costume play. I cosplay the Main Character from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, and I wanted a functional MP3 player that looked close to his. The actual model used for his is only 1 gig, and costs two times as much as this one. Anyway, buy this MP3 player! It's a great deal. ^_^

all around not very goodOct 19, 2009
By Jacob Braun At first I was excited at the thought of how easy it would be to put songs on and take them off because it just goes into the USB port. I used it once and it worked ok, and then the next day it froze and now forever displays the single phrase "MP3 Player" and does nothing else. I talked to Centon and waited and then about 2 weeks later they finally sent me a permission number to take it back.. but since I have to pay for shipping to send it back it will be almost half of the original price.. so the bottom line is don't order this it is not worth the trouble. I am never buying something from Centon again.

Had to be returnedOct 20, 2009

Would've been a good item (I'm still using an old 1GB Centon mp3 player.) I ordered this 4gb one as I wanted to put more songs into it (I only use it during workouts). Sound quality is decent (nothing spectacular), but my biggest problem with the unit I got was that it kept shutting off during my workout sessions and that was really annoying. I sent it back and Amazon sent me a refund. Thanks Amazon! I'll order another one, maybe one of those sansa clips.

Sorry Dad -- bad Christmas gift.Dec 28, 2009
By Dorothy A. Van Fossan I got this Centon MP3 player as a Christmas gift and, although I feel bad for seeming ungrateful, I totally hate it. While it is easy to drop and load MP3 tracks using the zip drive function, actually nagivating the menus is a pain. There is this tiny toggle that you have to use to switch between menus and tracks and you have to push it in just right if you want to enter a selection. If you aren't careful to push directly down on the toggle without your finger slipping/sliding to the left or right, you end up switching folders instead of going to the one you want.
The player is also incredibly SLOW. Switching songs takes over 2 seconds--which is pretty annoying if you want to skip tracks quickly to find one you really like. Adjusting the volume is like watching grass grow. You hold down the button and wait nearly a second for every increase. Fans of rotating dials for fast, loud sound will be sorely disappointed when it takes them nearly half a minute to get the volume they enjoy on this trudging machine.
Also, acting as if this player has any serious battery life is just a joke. One triple A is wiped out in nearly an hour's worth of songs (at best). I also agree with a previous reviewer that the headphones that came with the player produce poor quality sound. The bass is nearly nonexistent.
Short of the zip drive function, this MP3 player is simply terrible. I would save the $20 or buy the Coby MP305-4G MP3 player instead (which is the one my sister got). That way, you won't have to wait until the next Ice Age to adjust the volume or switch tracks.

Excellent value!Apr 06, 2009

I lost my RCA Pearl a few weeks ago. It was a good player, but it had problems with buttons sticking. I also used a $10 pair of headphones with it.
I got my Centon today and I already love it. It's incredibly easy to transfer files and the sound quality is AWESOME. I'm listening to it right now with the included earbuds. The quality is better than my $10 headphones!
I'm still figuring it out but if you want a nice basic player with some decent memory get this. The AAA battery is a bonus, after Hurricane Ike I loved being able to replace my battery while the power was out.
