4Great Quality PencilsJan 27, 2009
By Nuknuk
Working in an engineering consulting firm, we are using these pencils for drawing mark-up for years. They are of excellent quality. The lead is always balanced in the center core. The softness of the wood is just perfect for sharpening. It is just not as easy to erase as a regular graphite pencil if you make a mistake.

5A hardy predictable red pencil, 20045Jun 08, 2009
By Richard Smallwood "Smally"
I am a genealogist who is employed as a reviewer/verifier of applications and their accompanying documentation submitted by applicants wishing to join those societies. In the course of these reviews, I note each Generation (by underlining the names and assigning a generation number) and make comments on each set of documents being reviewed. All the information and marks that I add to the documents are to be performed with an erasable red pencil. For this work, a red pencil is, for the most part, the only tool that I use.

For many years I was able to find Prismacolor Col-Erase Carmine Red Pencils at most local office and school supply stores, so supply was never a problem. However, in the last year only Ticonderoga Checking(TM) pencils can be found locally. Believing that all red pencils were, basically, the same, I bought a dozen of the Ticonderoga brand red pencils. Big mistake! The "lead" or, the more correct term "core" of the Ticonderoga brand pencils is very fragile or soft causing the point to break off and to wear down quickly.

Thinking that I had gotten a bad shipment I purchased other Ticonderoga brand pencils from different stores in different cities, with the same results. At the same time, I tried to find Prismacolor Col-Erase red pencils. I could only find them in a few art supply stores and those were wildly expensive and did not have erasers.

Well, thank goodness for the Internet and Amazon (TM) and their suppliers as I was able to order the Prismacolor Col-Erase Carmine Red Pencils, by the dozen, and they are the same great pencil as what I have been using for years. So, if you are unhappy with your present checking pencil - definitely consider the Prismacolor Col-Erase Carmine Red Pencil (#20045).

3problematic for neat freaksJun 05, 2010
By S.M.
The pencils themselves are just fine, but I did not anticipate that they would arrive with large barcode stickers wrapped around the eraser end of each and every pencil. If you are the sort of person who enjoys ordering red pencils in bulk (read: a little neurotic), you might find this a little offputting. Be warned.

4Good choice for copy editorsSep 30, 2010
By Susan L. Johnson
The writing from this product is dark and the pencil is comfortable to use. Ticonderoga, another brand, is too hard, so writing isn't smooth and the result is much lighter.

Unfortunately, Prismacolor affixes a paper band containing the bar code to each pencil in the box, which makes sharpening a bit difficult. (The label doesn't appear on the pencil in the promotional material.) But they're great pencils and I'll buy more. (Why don't they put the bar code just below the eraser, the portion of the pencil that's never used?)

5Best on the MarketMar 17, 2010
By Frank Forman
It's my wife who uses this in her editing work. She finds it the best of the many kinds she has tried. I generally use a gel ball point pen myself, but I don't need to erase. But the red in these pencils is almost as bright.
