Great for fine detailingSep 11, 2007

These pencils are great for fine detailing. When coloring large sections, it tends to get a bit tedious. The regular prismacolor pencils are great for large areas, though they have a very thick lead so they color like crayons. But I love these pencils for coloring small or thin spots. I recommend an electric pencil sharpener for these; I used two different regular ones at first and the point kept breaking to the point where I barely had enough pencil to use the electric sharpener.

Different StrokesDec 28, 2008

Originally, I purchased these totally by mistake. I like the creamy flow of Prismacolor regular colored pencils for the work I do. And, that's just it. What effect do you want to create in your art? I only used these for detail, fine line work and embellishing. They are so hard that yes, they are virtually pediment (not eraseable). I find they also gouge deep into the paper so you have to use paper or canvas that holds up under pressure. I use them so rarely that my small set will last for years, that's because of the hardness too. Of all my art supplies, they are a very limited and specific use tool. For your style, they might be an inspiration.
Other great "soft" colored pencils are regular Prismacolor (you can get open stock - one at a time, at Michaels and try them out), Derwent and Dick Blick has their own brand, very inexpensive with colors that the other Artist brands don't have.

Great for my landscaping projectsMay 15, 2009
By Ltltyke I needed a color pencil to give me depth and vivid color when sketching still life images. A lot of artists use these pencils so I decided to find out why. It did not take me long to discover their versatility and precision. Blending and shadowing were not difficult to achieve and I was impressed by the amount of techniques I can successfully achieve with the help of Prisma color.

Good for Basic UseNov 18, 2010
By Janell I needed to create some color sketches and decided that colored pencils were a more desirable medium than Photoshop or ink. I knew from past experience that I knew that Crayola pencils would not provide the dynamic pencil range or feel that I desired. I also knew that Prismacolor Premier were far out of my budget. Prismacolor Verithin fit nicely between the two options: a good pencil without a high price.
Verithin are nice to work with for lines and small areas or patches. They are a hard lead and don't blend together willingly; in fact, the blending pencil (not included in this pack) is useless in any attempt to blend colors. That said, this box of 24 offers a sufficient color range for basic sketch work and I only find myself wanting for a yellow-green color and a lighter indigo. The pencils sharpen nicely, go onto sketch paper easily, and have a great saturation. I have not had a problem with lead breaking save for the stubborn black pencil which I kept falling apart such that the pencil was half gone before I managed to get even a useful, blunt tip on it.
I'm very happy with these pencils for my basic use.
