the Office Space classicMar 06, 2010
the perfect gift for anyone who loves Office Space. my son just got a new job in a large corporation and is a huge Office Space fan. i sent him this stapler and he loved it! the processing of my order and the delivery time were fast.

Only now it's even worse, because since the movie "Office Space" immortalized, satirized, and made a lot of money off the plight of lost souls like me, technology has advanced so that most all of us IT people can do our jobs from anywhere at any time. Yet I must do my job during a certain span of daylight hours and either sit in traffic both ways or leave home very early to avoid the morning rush and hope to beat the bulk of it on the way home in the afternoon.
So, as a stinging continual reminder of my powerlessness to control my daily life, I bought this beautiful and symbolic red stapler which I was delighted to find was still being produced. (I may have to move cubes soon, but the good news is that if you buy your own nobody can take it away from you.)
And, every once in a long time I actually get to staple some papers with it, and since I bought the exact staples recommended for it, it works like a charm. It is a true pleasure to hear that reassuring ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching as I join related pieces of paper, never to be separated. Now that's power!

This is on my desk and not only is it a heavy, metal stapler that works perfectly, every single time, it's got mad notoriety for being straight out of Office Space. People love it at my work. :)

Somewhere retailers lost their way and started selling cheap Chinese crap staplers that jam up and "down-wobble" so much that they just drive me nuts. It made me cherish my Navy Grey, 1956 Swingline stapler that, over a half-century later, still performs like a champ.
So it's sad that I had to hunt for something that approaches that heavy, grey performer, and I'm glad that I found this one. T'aint cheap (compared to the Chinese crap found in Office Max and such places), but it works. And hopefully it'll last a half century, too.
Dear USA manufacturers and retailers: Even the most frugal guys out there (that would be me) are willing to pay more if we get more. Decent quality stuff shouldn't have to be named "Collectors Edition" (as if it's a quaint old notion to produce MINIMUM-ACCEPTABILITY-LEVEL quality) to sell. I'm buying another one of these red suckers (one for upstairs, one for down) and then dumping my crap-staplers off at Goodwill. Quality, OK? Because cheap can be expensive.
